Support Randy's Recovery from Severe Foot Injury
Donation protected
On May 17, 2024, I received a phone call on my way to the kids' field day at school that Randy had been hurt at work and that they were taking him to the hospital. A 900+ lb piece of steel fell directly on the bridge of his foot when a magnet failed. We had hoped maybe just a couple of broken bones and we would be put in a cast and on our way. He broke 8 bones in his foot, had extensive nerve damage, and tendons were damaged as well.
On May 22nd, 2024, he had surgery to repair his foot. 5 screws, a plate, and a joint fusion. The doctor said his injury was a lot worse than what they had expected. He has been non-weightbearing since and has been bedridden due to having to keep his foot elevated 24/7 because of pain and swelling. We went to the doctor this past week with hopes he would be able to start bearing a bit of weight, only to be told his fractures were not healing due to lack of blood supply and the nature of the injury and he is 4-8 more weeks non-weightbearing. His nerve pain is getting worse and although he is expected to eventually recover, he will have lifelong nerve damage.
We had a family friend lend us a wheelchair. The wheelchair has been a lifesaver on days he feels good enough to get out of the house and go for a ride down the sidewalk. He is off work for a minimum of 6 months and workman’s comp is being a pain. We have had to cover all prescriptions out of pocket. Things are tight right now and we are not ever ones to ask for anything. We work our tails off for everything we have and had to set our pride aside for this one. Anything is greatly appreciated to help with bills, out of pocket costs for anything he needs medically, and appointments that are 30+ minutes away from home. Thank you all so much. We appreciate it more than you know.
