Support Randy's Journey to Stability

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Randy. I recently finished grad school and am a co-parenting father to my 6-year-old son. After years of struggling to build financial stability while raising my child, everything has finally caught up with me, and I'm facing a crisis that threatens our future.

The Breaking Point
I'm behind on rent and facing eviction, which would devastate my kid's stability. My car was just repossessed after I spent over $40,000 trying to keep it running since I bought it in 2021. A political consulting firm that my friend and I launched after finishing graduate school collapsed due to circumstances beyond our control, leaving us in a financial hole. I recently made the tough call to step away from my current sales job so that I could shift my focus to landing a better career opportunity while also fighting off eviction.

How I Got Here
I became a father in 2019 during my senior year of college. Since then, I've been in constant hustle mode, working in rideshare, tech, government, and political campaigns while earning dual master's degrees in Political Psychology and Program Evaluation and Data Analytics in 2024. I completed over 28,000 Uber rides, earning excellent ratings, while balancing school and co-parenting responsibilities.

Every sacrifice during those years was with his future in mind. I went back to school because I knew I wouldn't have many opportunities if I waited, especially since we were already struggling financially.

My Plan to Finally Break This Cycle
I'm actively pursuing stable career opportunities that align with my education and experience. My immediate plan is to rent an SUV and return to rideshare driving extensively, focusing on XL rides for maximum income. With my proven track record and ratings, I can generate substantial revenue while maintaining flexibility for interviews and applications. But I need stable housing first to make this work.

How You Can Help
I'm asking for assistance with:
  • Past due rent to avoid eviction
  • Current month's rent for stability
  • Initial costs for SUV rental to restart rideshare income

I have funds to contribute toward this, but I don't have enough to cover the entire amount. I'm not requesting coverage for any other financial obligations.

Moving Forward
This support will help me finally reach the financial stability I've been fighting for since becoming a young father. I'm committed to paying this forward once I break this cycle.

If you can help, please do so and provide whatever support you feel is necessary. Thank you for helping me protect everything I've built for my son's future.

FAQ / Common Questions:

Your apartment seems expensive. Why haven't you downsized?

The place I'm at gave me two months free rent when I moved in back in August. Additionally, they provided me with a free e-bike, a transit pass, and Lyft credits, and I can rent electric vehicles for as low as $5 an hour. I'm currently paying less than the market rate for a comparable 2-bedroom.

This is the ideal neighborhood for my kid to be raised in. My son's school and his mother's place are close, and living right next to the light rail has made things easier. This place isn't burning a hole in my pocket; it's doing me favors and saving me money in the long term.

His system is working; he's energetic, happy, attentive, and brings positive energy and joy everywhere he goes. This isn't about me, it's about him.

What's going on with your car?

It's the bank's car now. I'll work with them when things improve financially after I secure a suitable role. What happened is that I've had issues with this 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan since the week I purchased it used in 2021. I've contacted Volkswagen corporate many times, but these efforts have been unsuccessful. By the time I learned about Arizona's lemon laws, my car had already exceeded the mileage required for legal action. I've spent over $40,000 in repairs since 2021. After speaking with other owners, I learned about known issues with this model; they were either lucky enough to trade theirs in or get compensation through their state's lemon laws.

Why did you leave the sales job?

I needed to focus on obtaining a role that aligns better with my professional and academic background, while working for a company that pays me a sustainable salary and provides a better return on their investment. I was recruited immediately after graduation and liked everything about the company. Accepting this opportunity, despite being rejected from over 100 applications and not receiving any interviews, was the right decision for me and my child. The goal was to work there while I had my consulting firm. Still, when the firm went under, I realized I needed to make time for interviews and preparation, plus focus more aggressively on preventing this eviction from happening.
