Support Randy in Obtaining a Ramp After Amputation
Donation protected
Climbing up the front steps into his house has been a challenge for Randy for at least a year now. Randy was crawling up the front steps if he did not have someone to help him. Now that his leg has been amputated and he is in a wheelchair, the stairs have become impossible for him to accomplish on his own. Currently, Randy is having to be carried up and down the stairs (which scares not only Randy, but the rest of us as well). Unfortunately, we are having a difficult time coming up with the means to purchase a ramp and could really use some help. All of your thoughts, prayers, and help are greatly appreciated more than you know.
My parents voted on November 7th!! Afterwards, they continued on to the emergency room where their little over a month-long adventure of living in emergency rooms, hospitals, and a rehab center began. On election day, after arriving at the emergency room in Nampa late in the evening, my dad was transferred to the hospital in downtown Boise and admitted (this occurred in the middle of the night). The next day, my dad was told that he had about a day to decide if he wanted to amputate his right leg or let the infection, gangrene, spread through his body and pass away. The gangrene started in his toe and he had just been to an appointment at the wound center days prior to address the wound. He made the decision to amputate his right leg and the next morning had the operation.
My dad was then eventually moved to a rehab center, where after a time he was finally given a date, December 2nd, that he would be able to return home. Unfortunately, towards the end of November, the rehab center had to transport my dad to the emergency room. He was admitted once again due to potassium and blood pressure issues. My dad was able to go back to the rehab center almost a week later. Finally, on December 13th, he was able to go home. He spent his first night home laying on the floor for almost an hour, waiting for help to arrive because he was not able to transfer correctly and had to lower himself to the ground. Less than 24 hours after being able to come home, he was admitted to the hospital again on December 14th because he had the flu and was weak.
There are some sores on my dad's other foot that have developed and my parents are watching them closely. Randy has been told by the doctor that there is a chance he could lose his other leg as well.
Randy has now been home for a little over a week. He is doing well considering everything he has been through. There are a lot of changes and some remodeling that needs to be done in his house so that he is able to shower, use the restroom, and other everyday things. The biggest concern at the moment is getting a ramp in place so that Randy can safely enter and exit his house to get to doctor appointments.
