Our dear friend and local hygienist Randi has been diagnosed with HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis) — a rare and life-threatening immune system disorder.

HLH causes the body’s immune system to go into overdrive, attacking its own organs and tissues instead of fighting infections. It leads to extreme inflammation throughout the body, high fevers, organ damage, and dangerously low blood counts.

This illness is so rare that many people have never heard of it, but it requires urgent and aggressive treatment — often including high-dose steroids, chemotherapy-type medications, or even a bone marrow transplant. The road to recovery can be long and extremely challenging. For this reason Randi has Dr’s from OHSU on her team of Dr’s here.

As of right now, Randi is at home battling HLH day by day, doing her best to stay strong while waiting for treatment she needs to be approved. Your support means so much during this waiting period — it helps lighten the load while Randi focuses on fighting this.
