Hello everyone,

My name is Ricardo Madrid and I am the son of Ramon Madrid. On Friday, July 5th of 2024, the lives of my dad, family, and myself, changed in an instant. On what we thought was a normal Friday morning at work, my coworker went to find me to advise me that my dad had fallen off a 10-foot ladder and that he was unconscious. We immediately called 911 and paramedics rushed him to the nearest trauma center in our area. He was immediately taken care of by the nurses and doctors and received a full trauma workup. Unfortunately, the doctors said that the impact from the fall was so hard, that it caused him to have a seizure. In addition, the impact from the fall also affected his airway from breathing properly. As a result, doctors had to intubate him - which means they had to place a tube that connects to a machine that delivers oxygen to help him breathe.

Prior to this day, my father has always been a hard-working man. He came to the United States from Honduras to give us the opportunity to have a better life. He raised my three sisters, younger brother, and myself with my mom. Till this day, at age 63, almost 64, he still found the energy to make it to work every day before his accident, just so that he could make sure he had enough money to pay for the bills and have food on the table for my mom and younger sisters. My dad is known to be one of the happiest people to be around. Both him and I work and are union members of the Local 60 in Miami. At work, he’s known to be hard-working, humble, always smiling and no matter what, he’s always in good spirit. His positivity radiates to those around him. At home, he’s not only loved by my mom and siblings but also by his grandchildren. Nothing makes him happier than seeing his grandchildren after a long day of work.

As a result of this traumatic accident, my dad is now currently in the neuro ICU. The trauma to his head resulted in a brain bleed in which he remains unconscious. Although he is being taken care of by a great team of doctors, surgeons, and nurses, they have no idea when he will wake up. It can take days, weeks, or even months, for him to even wake up. And even when he does wake up, the doctors say it’ll be a long road to recovery. With such uncertainty, the stress of needing to pay bills has put a weight on my family.

I write this today, to ask you all for your help in contributing any little amount of donation that you can to our family. Any little would be a blessing to us right now. If you are unable to donate, that is okay. But if possible, I ask that you take the time to share this page and keep my dad and our family in your prayers. I also pray that God multiplies your donation, your time, and kindness in helping my family in this time of need. I thank you all for your help and will keep you updated on my dad’s condition as we get more answers from his care team.
