Help Rama and Her Family Survive Starvation in Gaza
Hi, my name is Raja. I’m a Yemeni-American humanitarian, social entrepreneur, and human rights advocate, based in the U.S. and Turkey. I’m organizing this fundraiser as an individual, in collaboration with close friends, to support our friend Rama, a 23-year-old English literature graduate currently trying to survive with her family in Gaza City, Palestine.
This campaign is to help Rama, her three siblings, and their parents—a family of six—access basic food and necessities during an escalating famine.
The Cost of Survival in Gaza Right Now
Food prices in Gaza are beyond what most people can imagine. Aid is severely limited, and militarized collection points are not safely accessible: Rama and her family are too scared to even get close. What remains in local markets is often resold at inflated prices, if it exists at all. Even people who are working for the UN are walking for days to find food.
Here’s what groceries cost Rama and her family in recent weeks:
A kilogram bag of red lentils or a small box of pasta: At least $16
A kilo of rice: $18
A bag of flour can be more than $70, sometimes two or three times that amount
Fresh fruits and vegetables: nowhere to be found
These prices go up regularly, and they have gotten much higher right now. Rama sends us regular photos of the small portions they manage to find—when they can afford to eat at all. There are days they go without food entirely. Last week, Rama told me she has lost 10 kilos (22 pounds) in just four months.
Right now, 2.2 million people in Gaza are facing starvation, according to the world authority on famine. Rama and her family are among them. People have begun to die from famine according to medics in Gaza.
Rama dreams of being able to afford a $100 bag of sugar, just so she can enjoy a little in her tea—something she hasn’t had since March.
So we’re coming to you for help.
How Funds Will Be Used
Because GoFundMe does not operate in Palestine:
• Funds will be withdrawn by me in the U.S.
• They will be securely transferred via trusted, vetted intermediaries to Rama in Gaza
• We are retaining full records and receipts of all transfers for accountability and transparency
• This setup fully complies with GoFundMe’s Terms of Service and U.S. legal guidelines
Every dollar you donate will go directly toward survival essentials for Rama’s family.
What Your Donation Can Do
Your contribution can make a real, tangible difference in Rama’s life. Here’s what each amount provides:
$50 will allow Rama and her family to buy a bag of lentils or some pasta. It will feed their family of six for one meal.
$75 will allow Rama and her family to buy more dry goods on the market and stretch these out into two meals
$100 → Rama’s dream: a bag of sugar
$250 → Is enough to provide one meal for Rama and her family for five days
$500+ → Is enough for Rama and her family to eat two meals a day for five days, or to buy a bag of flour to make bread.
A spoonful of sugar in tea = $1
A full bag of sugar in Gaza = $100 (yes, really)
The Fundraising Target
The fundraising target here is also designed to take into account how much will be swallowed up by the local bank transfer systems too, which can take up to half.
This Isn’t Charity — It’s Solidarity
We’re not a nonprofit. We’re just a few people trying to keep our friend and her family alive. If you’re able to give—even a little—it helps more than you know. And if you can’t donate right now, please share this with your networks.
Thank you for showing up.
With love and deep gratitude,
Raja & Friends
Update as of July 23, 2025 (6:15PM CEST): The outpouring of support allowed us to reach our original goal of $2,000 within 10 hours! Donations are still pouring in so we've raised the goal to $4,000. The more funds, means the longer we can keep people alive. Rama and I are so thankful to each of you. Please continue to promote. We are so moved by everyone's support.
