Rajesh’s Story – A Fight No One Prepares For

Rajesh is a 53-year-old Melbourne resident whose journey is one of courage, sacrifice, and determination. He came to Australia from a small village in Himachal Pradesh with a dream to build a better life through hard work and education. As the only educated member of his family, he carried not just his own hopes, but the aspirations of many.

Over the years, Rajesh worked tirelessly to establish himself. He built a stable life, a loving home, and a beautiful family with his wife and two children. Like many of us, he believed that dedication and perseverance would secure a brighter future. But life has taken an unexpected and devastating turn.

Rajesh has recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) — an aggressive and fast-progressing form of blood cancer. He was admitted to hospital immediately, and his treatment journey has begun.

AML is not just physically draining — it is emotionally and financially overwhelming. Treatment involves intensive chemotherapy, long hospital stays, a severely weakened immune system, and months of uncertainty. Patients often face extreme fatigue, infections, and complications that require constant medical supervision. Recovery is not quick, and every day becomes a battle.

Doctors have advised that Rajesh will be unable to work for at least the next six months.During this time, his wife must step in as his full-time caregiver while also supporting their two children. The family’s income has suddenly come to a halt, but their expenses medical costs, household bills, schooling, and daily living continue to grow.

This is where we, as a community, can come together.
