I never expected to be faced with a situation as difficult as this. My 8-year-old fur baby Raina has experienced a plethora of medical issues as of late. It began with symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease beginning this spring. Her loving and overly social personality had been replaced with exhaustion and food aversion. I have monitored her symptoms closely which have included vomiting, weight-loss, lethargy, and loss of appetite. We've been in and out of her vet's office concluding with normal labs and exams, so after no answers we decided to do an ultrasound that revealed we might be dealing with Small Cell Lymphoma. On July 16 she is undergoing an endoscopy so we can get a proper diagnosis and begin chemotherapy.
At the end of June, I had to make a decision that's impacted my finances a bit more than I'm comfortable with. I cancelled 12 confirmed work bookings overseas in order to stay home with Raina and focus on her health. I had to take a loss on travel and income while facing large vet bills. Raina is my sunshine, and she has been in my life since I was 18 as a new young adult in New Orleans. She deserves the best care and a chance at a happy long life. Anyone who has had the pleasure of being in Raina's presence knows she is nothing but a big cuddle bug who loves to be held and included in social activities. Anything helps us!
UPDATE: July 16
Raina’s endoscopy showed no signs of cancer! Amazing news. Her oncologist collected a biopsy sample to test to confirm the inflammation is not cancerous. This might be the light at the end of the tunnel!
