Support Raheem's Recovery and Family Stability

This here is a photo of my daughter Mirage, her partner, Raheem, and his daughter whom Mirage helps to raise.

On July 5th, Raheem called Mirage on his break from work stating he was on his way home but was feeling disoriented and didn't know where he was. She advised him to pull over and rest. It was very hot and she thought he may be dehydrated. 15 minutes later, he arrived home saying he felt better. He briefly played with his daughter and said he was going outside to the car because he had forgotten something. After about 10 minutes, Mirage went outside with daughter in her arms to find Raheem passed out in front of their building with vomit on his mouth. He was unresponsive. She panicked and called me. I immediately called 911. We were later told that he suffered a seizure in front of the building and another in the ambulance. Raheem was intubated at the hospital and placed in an induced coma because he was having trouble breathing. He was taken for a CT scan and suffered a third seizure. He spent 4 days in the ICU and was sent home with a diagnosis of epilepsy to include medication he must take for an undetermined amount of time. Raheem's driver's license was taken from the state for 6 months due to state regulations on epilepsy.

At the time, they were already late on rent because Mirage lost her job 3 weeks earlier making bills difficult. Raheem had no insurance as he had just switched employers himself two months earlier. He cannot return to work without medical clearance which we have yet to attain. Medicaid is still pending evaluation, Disability is a long process, and today they received a notice of eviction which adds $75 a day late fees, along with $182 court fees for the eviction. Today they owe $1700 and every day raises another $75. They are at risk of eviction with nowhere to go.

I called the Berks county rental assistance program today and was told that there is no funding. I went into the Housing Authority department and was told that we cannot even be put on the list because the list is closed. Raheem has tried to get his job back, against doctors' wishes, but was told that he needs complete clearance without restrictions and that is something that is impossible to attain. We are at a loss. Anything could help.
