This is my 22-year-old son, Rafael. He was recently diagnosed with decompensated heart failure and has blood clots in his left ventricle. He may need a heart transplant. He was hospitalized in the ICU for a week and is now home but unable to work. Rafael has health insurance, but the monthly copays for his necessary medications are over 200 dollars a month. He also has several follow-ups and medical equipment, including oxygen, that all have copays as well. We have not received bills from his ICU stay yet, but we know they are on the way. Once he exhausts his PTO and sick leave, he will not have a paycheck. I am on unpaid leave as well to assist with getting him more stable and taking him to and from medical appointments, etc. He cannot drive at this time. We expect that Rafael’s condition will improve with time and he can get back to the line of duty as a Firefighter and won’t need a heart transplant . Right now, we need help financially. This is not an easy ask nor one that we could foresee. We understand that everyone is struggling during these times, and we are grateful for all that we do have. Please put us in your prayers, as that is helpful as we are faithful that the Lord will also provide.
