***UPDATE***
5/27/2024 He has gained his wings. RIP to a great man/father.
Hello everyone,
My name is Abraham Moreno, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart, filled with disbelief and profound sadness. Our family is facing the toughest challenge we've ever encountered, and we need your help.
Let me introduce you to Rafael Mora, a man whose charisma and kindness have been a blessing to all who know him. More than just my uncle, Rafael has been like a father to me, a steadfast pillar holding our family together through the years. He never married no had children of his own. He cared and took care of me and my siblings during the most crucial years of our lives.
Four months ago, Rafael was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer, specifically squamous cell carcinoma, with a mass obstructing his esophagus. Despite being given only a 30% chance of survival, he chose to fight aggressively, holding onto hope and faith.
Two months ago, Rafael was hospitalized with a persistent cough and shortness of breath. After being placed on antibiotics and oxygen, an endoscopy revealed devastating news: the mass in his chest had led to recurrent pneumonia, complicating his recovery. He was then diagnosed with hypoxemic respiratory failure, making it even harder for him to breathe. Despite weeks of relentless struggle, the doctors eventually told us there was no hope. They also discovered a bronchoesophageal fistula.
Faced with these harsh realities, and after much prayer and family discussion, I made the difficult decision to transition Rafael to comfort care (hospice) to ensure his remaining days are peaceful and pain-free.
As we prepare for the inevitable, we are also aware of the significant costs that lie ahead. I am humbly asking for your support, whether through donations or by sharing our story, to help ensure Rafael receives the dignified services he deserves. Rafael is a deeply caring, albeit stubborn, man who loves his family dearly, even if he sometimes struggled to show it.
Please, if you can, find it in your heart to assist us in any way possible. My family and I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you.
