Most of us in the building know Rafael Aviles. He has been with the building for many, many years and has become a member of the District family. He has always interacted warmly with myself and my family. He has always been pleasant, cheerful, and in good spirits, friendly and wonderful with all the kids.

We learned recently that Rafael has a very serious medical condition. He has been diagnosed with abdominal/liver cancer. He's needed multiple surgeries and has been noticably away from the building. In the interest of respecting his privacy, we feel it is more appropriate to allow him to discuss it with everyone on his terms when he returns.

As one of "The District's" families, it weighed upon us. His dedication, kindness, and respect for the building's families encouraged us to initiate this fundraiser for Rafael.
