Hello!
My name is Rachel and I am a dedicated return student, completing coursework in Indianapolis, Indiana at Ivy Tech University. I am currently holding a 4.0 GPA and am a full time student for the first time in fourteen years. I am fundraising to pay for college coursework and will use the funds I acquire to pay tuition and books for two semesters. I am constantly looking for funding and had the pleasure of receiving Indy Achieves Scholarship this past semester. I also was selected to attend the Indy Achieves Leadership Forum in March of 2024 after completion of a written essay about the impact education can have on self esteem. I plan on transferring my degree to a four year university once I complete my Associate in Human Services & Social Work. My projected date of graduation is 2026. I am a single parent of three children and do my very best to set an example of how important education is to the future of your life. Not only does college provide traditional education in relation to basic knowledge of subject material but the experience of being a college student is something I believe is a life experience everyone should have if they choose. I plan to work in social services during and after completion of my degree. I have not narrowed down a specific demographic but can foresee myself working with the disabled, children or full time students and mothers, like myself. When I became a parent I chose to work instead of completing my degree because I was not equipped at the time to do both. I have worked in many professional fields and chose social work because I believe that one of the biggest setbacks in life is lack of support and guidance. I would like to become an avenue for my community to seek out resources. Completing my education is important to me not only because of the achievement of completing a difficult task but I also would like to motivate my children to take advantage of all the resources a higher education can provide to them.
Thank you.
