Our colleague and friend, Rachel McKinney, is going through an incredibly challenging time and needs our support.

Rachel recently underwent what was expected to be a minimally invasive Chiari decompression surgery, with the hope of returning to work in under a week. Unfortunately, her recovery has been anything but simple.

Just three days after surgery, Rachel’s incision began to leak, and doctors discovered a cerebral spinal fluid leak. She was immediately hospitalized, and a drain was inserted to relieve the excess fluid. When the first drain clogged, surgeons had to place a second one. After a week in the hospital, she was finally released—only for the incision to begin leaking again just two days later.

This time, Rachel required an additional procedures to reopen and patch the incision 3 more patches before the leak finally sealed. Altogether, she has undergone four surgeries in just two weeks.

Rachel is now recovering at home, but she is out of leave time and currently receiving no paycheck. As a single mom, she is doing everything she can to stay strong for her son during his senior year of high school, but the financial strain has become overwhelming. Medical complications, household bills, and the everyday needs of raising a teenager are adding up quickly.

Rachel is not someone who asks for help easily—but right now, she truly needs her community.
