During my 2nd total knee replacement of 3, I contracted a MRSA infection and have had a total of 9 surgeries over the past 12 years trying to save my (R) leg. After 6 years of long-term antibiotics via my infectious disease doctor,and care by my arterial surgeon, my infection flared up again, and I was told by 3 seperate orthopedic surgeons, and my arterial surgeon, that my leg must be amputated above the knee or I would likely die within a matter of weeks. My (R) leg was amputated in July of this year and the infection has since moved into my left leg also. I am being seen by an in-home wound care nurse 3 times weekly, and once weekly at Saint Anthony wound care, an arterial surgeon and a podiatrist at Mercy every 2 weeks. Many medications and supplies prescribed aren't covered and are incredibly expensive. My prosthetic device isn't covered completely, including in-home wound care. I am presently fighting to save my left leg and am receiving IV antibiotics twice daily. I have been unable to maintain my medical expenses due to increasing food costs, utilities, compression stockings, socks, among other numerous expenses. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for psychotherapy due to the stress and depression of the recent loss of my leg, and the likelihood of losing the other. Any assistance to help with the present mounting expenses for medicines, supplies, wheelchair, walker, bathtub and toilet modifications, and handicap ramp reimbursement expense, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
