My name is Quinn, and I’m a 35-year-old disabled combat veteran of the Montana Army National Guard. I’m also incredibly lucky to be married to the most amazing woman and to be a stepfather to the sweetest 4-year-old you could ever meet. Just a few weeks ago, shortly after my birthday, I received a diagnosis that changed everything: a chondrosarcoma tumor growing in my left hip socket.
This rare cancer is very resistant to chemotherapy and radiation. Because of where and how quickly the tumor is growing, my only treatment option is a major surgery to amputate my entire left leg and the left half of my pelvis. This is a massive change—not just for me, but for my wife and stepdaughter as well. After my surgery on May 15th, my wife will become my primary caregiver, and neither of us will be able to work for several months as I recover, go through rehab, and learn to live independently again.
One of my biggest concerns is my family’s financial wellness during this time. We’re hoping to get some help to cover the necessities—our mortgage, taxes, phone bills, clothes for our daughter, food, and insurance—while we get back on our feet. Anything you have to spare would be a massive help, and I cannot begin to express the gratitude we, and especially I, would feel. Most people who know me know how much I hate asking for handouts, but sometimes you have to ask for help from your community to make things work. I would never want to ask for help if I didn't feel the need to, but my family comes first. Taking care of us through this trying time, and allowing me to focus on recovery, would mean the world. Any support you can give is deeply appreciated.
