Dear community,
I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to gather desperately needed medical funds for Quinn.
Quinn is a 36-year-old non-binary person who, on October 10 at 10:30 PM, went to the ER at Providence in Santa Rosa for extreme abdomen pain.
Quinn was diagnosed with an infected, acute gallbladder disease with a large stone completely blocking a duct. They were told they needed surgery ASAP.
However, after being treated with disdain, being misgendered, and disrespected repeatedly for 2 days, Quinn still did not have the surgery. Quinn was told 10 times in 48 hours they would have surgery, but each time something else was prioritized.
In extreme pain and feeling very unsafe, Quinn checked out of Providence and took a Lyft to Sutter ER. Thankfully, at Sutter, they were very respectful and deeply concerned about Quinn not having surgery in the past 2 days and the poor quality of care. Within 12 hours, Quinn had the needed tests, surgery completed successfully, out of post-op, and resting back in a hospital room. As a family, we are very grateful to Sutter.
The emergency surgery and recovery took 2.5 weeks, and Quinn missed their full-time work. Even though this was an emergency and Quinn filled out all necessary EDD and insurance paperwork, Quinn is being denied unemployment for the 2.5 weeks. And the hospital that Quinn had to leave is trying to charge for services Quinn did not have. This loss of income is extremely difficult for Quinn and our family. This will be a bit of a fight for Quinn to correct the billing. And now Quinn is being denied some coverage by their insurance company, Anthem. We are asking if folks could kindly help us to raise money to cover:
$1500 for 2.5 weeks of work missed
$3500 total (so far) insurance is denying for both hospitals
We thank you all so very much from our humble hearts.
Laura and family (on behalf of Quinn)
