Support Quati's Family in Flood Recovery

Hello, my name is Guilherme Oliveira Ferreira, known in capoeira as Quati. I was born and raised in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, where all of my immediate family and closer friends still live. Many families, including mine, have been devastated and displaced by the unprecedented flooding, and their lives upended with, insecurity, lost and a lack of basic necessities, like electricity and clean water.

My sister, Fabiana Lara Ferreira, and her three kids ( one of them has autism) have lost everything. She live in São Leopoldo, that is one of the city’s affected with the flood where the water completely cover all the neighborhoods. My mom, Maria Miranda Oliveira, 81 years old got also affected with the strong rain creating damage on her house and propriety where I grew up in Teresópolis, neighborhood in Porto Alegre, where I started play capoeira when I was 12 years old. The rain didn’t stop completely and now the winter season is coming and we are trying figure out some help asap to help rebuild what got destroyed. We will not know the extent of the damage until the water subsides. We don't know if there will even be walls up, or a house to return to. 75% of the state is underwater and it will take a very long time to rebuild and heal from this. Approximately 400 cities have been devastated by this flood, and nearly 164,000 people forced from their homes.

We all know that material things can be replaced, but not ours lives, and I am grateful that they are okay, and are together with other members of the family that got less affected. Friends and family here in the US have asked me how they can help my family rebuild their lives after this tragedy, and I appreciate all of your phone calls, emails, texts and IG messages.
