Support Quari's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Shakedra and on May 1, 24, my oldest son, Quari, was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he sustained a traumatic brain injury. He was in a coma, in ICU for a month but is now minimally conscious, even after the doctors said he had little to no significance of life.
On August 22, he was accepted to Carolinas Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte, NC, where he has been receiving physical, occupational, speech, and neuro stim medication to "wake" him up. He can't walk, talk, or do anything independently as of now, but I have not given up on him. With continuing the current treatment that he's receiving at this facility, his chances are greater to gain some independence. His discharge date is Oct 1; however, he can continue outpatient visits, but I live 4.5 hours away from the facility.
This has truly been a journey, and I do not want it to stop because he has come a very long way. I don't have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, I have not been able to work, and I also have younger children. I need help with handicap accessible transportation and moving/rental assistance to become closer to the facility in Charlotte, NC. I'm now his primary caregiver provider; he needs round-the-clock care, however, I'm not able to get paid for providing care. No amount is too big or too small, and every donation will help me to continue care for my son. I refused to bury him, and I will help teach him to walk and talk again.
