Celebrating My Mom’s Strength and Courage

Since March of this year, my mom has been bravely battling stage 3 colorectal cancer. With each surgery and every setback, she faced her challenges head-on with incredible perseverance. Her journey has been marked by strength and determination as she fought hard through countless complications.

On July 8th, she began chemotherapy, but it proved to be too harsh on her body. Despite her unyielding spirit, on July 24th, we were jolted out of our sleep by the devastating news that she had coded. Thankfully, she was resuscitated and is now in the CICU. However, due to the complications that led to her cardiac arrest and the trauma her body endured, my mom is nearing the end of her courageous fight.

Throughout her life, my mom worked tirelessly and poured her heart into her job, but unfortunately, she didn’t get to enjoy the fruits of her labor the way she truly deserved. We are grateful for the time we have shared and continue to hold on to every precious moment. Her legacy of love, resilience, and hard work will always remain in our hearts.

She was a loving mother, Gigi, friend, sister, and aunt, who touched the lives of everyone around her. Us, her daughters Qiana and Akayla, are only in our twenties and are now facing the heartbreaking reality of burying our beloved mother. Along with our family, we have fought hard alongside her from day one.

Her journey has taught us the importance of early screenings and regular colonoscopies. I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to get a colonoscopy, no matter how difficult or uncomfortable it may seem. Early detection of colorectal cancer can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes and can save lives.

In addition to taking care of your physical health, mental health awareness is crucial, especially during times of illness and stress. Take care of yourselves, both physically and mentally, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support when needed.
