Support Qesser & Salaam - Sibling political prisoners

Qesser Zuhrah has been held on remand at HMP Bronzefield for the last eight months, along with twenty-three other activists from across the UK who have come to be known as the Filton 24 -- they are accused of allegedly causing millions in damages to an Elbit Systems site in Bristol called Filton, where machines of death, such as quadcopter drones are manufactured, later to be used to massacre Palestinians. Her arrest in a crude dawn raid has left a crater in the lives of her friends and family alike. To add insult to injury, her younger brother, Salaam Mahmood, a mere 19 years old, was arrested in a similar raid just last month, widening this crater even more and adding an even heavier load on their collective support networks.

Supporting a prisoner is a very expensive venture: from acquiring books to keeping their phone credit topped up to ensuring they can purchase their daily necessities, support from a single source on the outside can be hundreds of pounds a month. Although Qesser and Salaam's support network is strong, it mostly consists of young university students who are unable to sustain the cost of long trips to the prison in the long term, combined with the excessive phone call rates. Their younger brothers would also like to visit them frequently, but need the funds to be able to do so. Considering all these factors, we are calling on all of you to help support our beautiful friends on the financial front of their struggle.

Qesser often shares messages from her cell to the world, encouraging supporters not to lose sight of the fact that the repression of the Filton 24 is a mere symptom of the problem that is the ever-sprawling genocide in Gaza. She rejects the premise of heroism and encourages us to keep our eyes on the atrocities and support those on the ground. Whilst we must heed these timeless sentiments, we must also not neglect our responsibilities to our brothers and sisters in the movement, who have been hurt for this very pure-heartedness.
