My name is Elaine and I am a parent who has sent my two older children to this preschool when they were young and now have my youngest enrolled in the program.  In speaking with other families, we all agree this is a program that we want to survive this pandemic.  They are genuine educators who take good care of our children, love them, make sure they are having fun and are happy, and also teaching them so much each day.  It's been difficult to find a program like this in our area and we hope it will be able to get through this storm.

A Little History on Purple Crayon
Purple Crayon was created by Ms. Stefanie in 2013.  Her mission was to create a preschool program where children feel loved, have fun, and are encouraged to meet their full potential - and that can look different for each child.  Purple Crayon started as a small preschool program in Brooklyn, NY with 2 classrooms and 5 staff members.  This allowed all the children, families, and staff to become familiar and close-knit with each other.  It felt more like a second home to the children rather than school.  The staff watched as the children transformed from toddlers into preschoolers, learned how to form friendships and understand camaraderie, then with a bittersweet feeling, departed into their "big" school for Kindergarten.  With the positive results of the program, they have expanded to 5 classrooms with over 12 staff members.

Here are a few testimonials from parents of children in the program from when they started to now:

"Purple Crayon’s core values made it simple to decide which daycare to put our daughter in.  For us, quality is not an option but a necessity.  They have helped our daughter reach countless milestones such as learning mandarin, putting sentences together, treating people with respect and understanding hygiene all at a very young age.  Not only has my daughter bonded with her classmates but parents have formed close relationships with the teachers.  We can proudly call them friends." - Henry Yee

"My daughter attended Purple Crayon in 2014. As a first time parent, I was nervous sending her to preschool. I scoured the area, toured many school until finding Purple Crayon. Walking into the room of colorful masterpieces hanging, children playing, and warmth from the teachers approaching my shy little 2 year old at the time— I knew this was it. After quickly adjusting, my daughter made Purple Crayon her second home. Their curated daily lessons gave the foundation that prepared my daughter incredibly well for kindergarten & beyond. My son started his first year at Purple Crayon in 2019 (pre-pandemic.) Coming back to Purple Crayon, I noticed the same warmth entering his classroom but more engagement with families. Staff at Purple Crayon are always welcoming, loving, and accommodating— making us feel right at home." - Allison Korompis

"We are so happy to have Vivian in school here where she "plays and learns" everyday. And she loves to learn. Her teachers are wonderful - kind and attentive, the school itself clean and welcoming, and the daily reports are a nice touch allowing us to talk to Vivian about what she is doing at school as well as see her and her friends learning and playing." - Christa Baida

"My 3 year old son attends Purple Crayon. I am extremely impressed at how attentive and engaging the teachers are with the class. They are always quick to communicate and are always very hands on with my son. I am a working mom but their daily emails, pictures and videos keeps me involved in his daily activities at school. I am very happy with how my son has flourished under their watch. Keep up the great work Purple Crayon!" - Carol Ouyang

Ever since the temporary closure of daycares due to COVID-19, Purple Crayon has made great efforts to provide continuity and routine to children and families using virtual learning sessions where children are given opportunities to see their friends and teachers multiple times a day doing fun and academic activities via Zoom session.  This has helped children stay in touch with each other and to keep the learning going.  With the uncertainty of when they will be able to reopen, it is unsure how much longer they will be able to hold on to keep their dedicated staff on payroll and to pay rent for the upcoming months.

The video below was recently made for Teacher Appreciation Week, it shows a glimpse of how children feel about their teachers and you can see many of them miss being there.

When parents were asked how Purple Crayon stands out from other programs and why they feel strongly they would want to see it survive through this pandemic, one family responded:

"Purple Crayon equips their students with valuable tools for the future because they are OUR future. The school’s passion to raise the education bar for the next generation is more than enough for us to want them to continue their efforts. From the bottom of our hearts, we are thankful for what a phenomenal job they are doing."

Many daycares and preschools may not survive this pandemic since they have been required to shut their doors to ensure the safety of the children, families, and the staff, and Purple Crayon does not fall short of the situation.  And this is why we are asking for your donations to help Purple Crayon stay afloat and hope that it will survive through this pandemic.

In speaking with Ms. Stefanie, Purple Crayon will use it's donations to provide virtual learning to children of families who may have been put in an unfortunate employment situation due to COVID-19 - this will also help keep the teachers employed during the pandemic.  Purple Crayon will use the donations to help with paying for rent and the health benefits of its staff.  It will also use the donations to obtain the necessary tools and equipment to enhance the center to meet health and safety guidelines issued by the CDC and New York City's Department of Health to ensure all children and staff in the facility can feel protected and safe when they return to the program.

Please help our efforts by donating (any little bit helps) and spreading the word to other current and former Purple Crayon parents, grandparents, friends, relatives, deep pocket neighbors...  Thank you!
