Who is Pulseras Indígenas?
Pulseras Indígenas, founded in 2017, is a women’s group based in a rural community around Popoyo, Nicaragua, bringing together 14 women and girls aged 10 to 50. Twice a month, the group meets to create colorful handmade bracelets that are sold in local stores, hotels, and restaurants, supporting their families and community.
Beyond crafting, Pulseras Indígenas is a space for learning, empowerment, and connection. The women receive education in entrepreneurship, communication skills, and financial literacy, building confidence and independence. Each gathering also includes meditation and somatic exercises to calm the nervous system, as well as sharing circles where participants explore experiences of womanhood, community, and personal growth.
Through creativity, collaboration, and care, Pulseras Indígenas weaves together traditional artistry with modern empowerment — helping women and girls discover their voice, strength, and sense of belonging.
80% of all proceeds go directly to the women artisans, 20% is allocated for purchasing new supplies and maintaining an emergency fund for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
