I’m a dreamer. I have a lot I want to do in my lifetime. (Ya know, grow a mass youth movement, win the Green New Deal, run a government agency implementing the GND, travel to every continent, get better at tennis. You know, all the things.) And maybe you, too, have dreams?
For me, those dreams are punctuated with a lot of fear. What if I fail? What if I can’t do it? What will people think? How will I find the resources to make my dreams real?
Years of dreaming and scheming, of health & wellness projects, of summer internships on urban farms, of organizing in a youth climate movement, have brought me to a place where I’m ready to move through my own fears and make those dreams a reality.
So, sharing a bit of my dream with you.
I'm working on several creative projects that I'm looking to raise funds for. The first is a podcast I'm hoping to launch (with the amazing Paola Sanchez) earlier in the year, interviewing organizers, artists, and spiritual ppl and digging into the question of what’s in the secret sauce that inspires them to take the wildest ideas living in the figments of their imagination and bring them to life?
The second is a documentary film highlighting the stories of young Black and Latine climate organizers. Logline: Currently, at the heart of the current youth climate movement lie the untold stories of Black and Latine organizers working to push our government to act with the scale and urgency with which the climate crisis demands. This project aspires to tell the stories of these young people. What motivates them, how does climate change affect the people they love and the places they call home, what are they up against, and what’s at stake if they don’t win?
And the third is a summer photography project. The dream is to road trip across the country (via Amtrak :), taking photos & telling the stories of members of Sunrise and how climate change is impacting their homes & communities. I'd love to turn this into a photography book.
The final is a weekend-long summer retreat in upstate New York bringing organizers, artists, and healers together to rest, reflect, play, and create, in community.
My long-term dream and vision is to own land and run a retreat center/community bringing together organizers, artists/creatives, and healers & spiritual folks. (You can learn more about that vision here.) And in a lot of ways, many of my passions & creative projects are ways to build the skills and community to get there some day :)
If you're inspired or want to support, I encourage you to donate below, share this with friends, and/or send me thoughts or ideas you have! Whether you have $10 or $1K to give, any support is appreciated.
The funds raised will go towards equipment (e.g., cameras, mics), paying videographers and editors, retreat space, travel & transportation, contracting designers, attend film festivals, photo & film courses, etc.
- $10: Buy a roll of film to shoot 36 photos
- $50: Four rolls of film developed or cost to produce on photography book or hourly rate to pay podcast editor
- $100: One way ticket to travel to shoot/film or a workshop class at DCTV
- $500: Contract a graphic designer or contract a video editor for one short project
- $1000: Hire a Director of Photography (DP) to shoot for a day or pays for one night for a summer retreat with 20 young people
In advance, thank you SO much, any contribution is so incredibly supportive in turning the things living in the figments of my imagination into reality. So I thank you so much <3
