Thank you for your interest in our fundraiser for Project Hispaniola! We are a group of medical and physical therapy students at UT Health San Antonio. Every year, a group of us travels to La Romana in the Dominican Republic to work with our community partner, Buen Samaritano, to provide medical care and education to Haitian migrant sugarcane workers and their families.

This is an extremely underserved population, living in bateyes, the rural settlements scattered throughout the Dominican Republic. Their access to clean water, electricity, food, and other basic needs is often limited, and many are unable to reach healthcare facilities due to lack of documentation, transportation, or financial resources. For many residents, the care provided by groups like ours is the only medical attention they receive all year.

We are asking for donations to help us pay for the medications and supplies we need for the clinic, transportation to the bateyes (we will travel to a different one each day), hiring interpreters who can speak Haitian Creole, and hiring a Dominican doctor who will help us manage the patient load.

Some examples of where your donations go!

$2 = hygiene kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap, etc.)

$10 = 1,000 Tylenol tablets

$25 = 1,000 Antibiotic capusles

$30 = 1,000 Blood pressure tablets, 1,000 Prilosec tablets

$60 = Hire an interpreter for a day

$100 = Hire the Dominican doctor for a day

$275 = Hire the bus and driver for a day to transport all of us to bateyes
