On July 10th, 2025, ICE carried out a militarized raid on Glass House Farms in Camarillo, CA. Professor John Caravello, a philosophy professor at CSU Channel Islands, answered the call for community support. When John attempted to assist a disabled person during the chaos, he was tackled by federal agents, zip-tied, and disappeared from public view. For two days, his loved ones and community had no idea where he was. John was eventually found in the Los Angeles Federal Prison, unregistered, unable to contact anyone, and without a change of clothes until fellow inmates offered him help.
John is a beloved educator, community organizer, and union representative. He is deeply committed to peaceful protest and has never caused harm while exercising his First Amendment rights, including on July 10th. Despite this, he now faces a federal felony charge. The attack on John is an attack on all who value the right to free speech and assembly—rights that are fundamental to a democratic society. The charges against John are meant to repress not just him, but all those who would stand up and speak out against ICE’s violent, extra-judicial actions.
Your support will help cover John’s travel, lodging, meals, court-appropriate clothing, administrative costs, and other basic expenses required to attend and prepare for federal court proceedings. By donating, you are helping to take the target off John’s back, allowing him to focus on his teaching and community work. Please stand with John and with all who defend justice and the right to peaceful assembly. Every contribution makes a difference in this fight for fairness and freedom.
In addition to donating, you can show your support by attending John’s trial on March 24. A strong community presence matters. If you are able to attend, please sign up here: https://forms.office.com/r/VBHS1QHXg7
