Hello! My name is Preston Kodet, I’m the Writer/Director of the upcoming short film, Crumbs.

Logline: A mechanic father and his son grapple with understanding each other, their relationship hanging by a thread of movies & junk food.

A little about this story, and why it’s important to me:

This film is based on my dad and my relationship with him. For those of you who may not know, my dad passed away my senior year of high school. To say that was devastating is an understatement. It’s been 3 years now, and I still think about him everyday; the lessons he taught me, the road trips to National parks he took me on, the fried food we shared, and of course, the arguments we had.

My dad was relatively young – which meant that he did a lot of growing up just as much as I did. I remember when I was young all I wanted to do was everything he did, work on cars, go diving. For those of you who never had the honor of knowing my father, he had a heart of gold. I seriously think if you were to do an x-ray there’d be a second gold rush. He rescued dozens of injured animals, nursing them back to health. He was a rescue diver, saving human lives as well. He made sure that I was open-minded, took me to places across the country to meet people with different backgrounds than me, and would help out anyone that ever needed it. That being said, we all become angsty teenagers at some point in our lives, and him and I had our fair share of arguments. It was rough for a couple years, with some pretty tense moments. Luckily when I got a little older, we started to bond more over a variety of things. Cars, movies, food, dream vacations, etc. I wish I had more time to spend with him, and get to know him as an adult. I wrote this film in honor of time, slowing down and appreciating the people closest to you.

Crumbs is a story about how easy it is to let external factors impact your relationship with your family, and when you grow up, you start to regret some of those once-important-to-you arguments. I hope this film can remind people that it’s okay to be upset, and frustrated with the people closest to you, but even more important to remind yourself that you love that person, that you enjoy doing things together, and that it’s their first time being alive too.

Thank you for your support, in every way that you do, and thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.
