Dada Pramoditananda's Cancer Battle

Today Monday 4 April, 2025 @ 7:45 pm PST our beloved brother Dada Pramodiitananda, and Avadhuta of Baba took his last breath. He went peacefully while kirtana played in presence of Didi Ananda Kalyanmitra, Dada Mutatmananda and Sister Kusum. Baba will guide him in his further journey to peace.

Dada Pramoditananda will be remembered by all those he helped with his skills. And all those who came to know him.

Rest in peace now.

How it started.

A few weeks ago, Dada Pramoditananda suddenly lost the ability to walk. He went to the Emergency Room, and there was shocked to learn that he had metastatic cancer. It had started in his esophagus without symptoms, and silently spread to his lungs, liver, thyroid and spinal cord. He is only 47 years old.

15 Years of Acarya life

Twenty two years ago, in 2002, he began meditating in Russia, where he was born. By 2009, he had already dedicated his life as an acarya , and then avadhuta of Ananda Marga. Since then he has been running projects and teaching meditation and yoga all over the world, as well as constructing and renovating meditation centers. His first posting was in Russia, then in Sweden, then travelling around Europe and for the past 6 years, in the United States. He has dedicated his whole life to Ananda Marga, and now, he needs our solidarity and support as he begins the difficult journey through chemotherapy and radiation treatment this week.

Surrendered and ready to fight

Dada is full of spiritual faith and surrender as well as young, vigorous and ready to fight for his life, but he needs your help. As a monk, he has always lived in a very simple, humble way, depending on the gratitude and donations of those of us he serves.

Let's make sure he is not alone.

Dada is grateful to be covered by state-supported insurance in California for primary cancer treatment, but additional expenses are starting to add up, as he is already bedridden and needs personal nursing care and transportation for treatments. As he can no longer travel to teach and receive donations, he depends on all of us to ensure even his most basic expenses, like nutritious food. We also know how aggressive and harsh chemotherapy is, so we hope that we can provide Dada with some simple complementary natural therapies that will improve his chances and quality of life.

Please let's make sure that Dada Pramoditananda, who has entrusted his life to Baba, will be taken care of appropriately. Please also send him messages of love, appreciation and encouragement so that he will know he is not alone, and that you and our whole samgha are united behind him.
