Support PoSan Ung's Critical Medical Care in Cambodia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Esther Kim (Brown '00) and I am a friend of PoSan Ung (Brown '95) for whom we are seeking medical support funds and your prayers. I am in touch with PoSan's wife Jannet Ung (Brown '98) and Nicole Rim (RISD '02) who are partners in PoSan's ministry "Living Fields" based in Lynn, MA. They are in direct contact with PoSan.
ACCIDENT
PoSan was in northern Cambodia visiting churches which are part of the Living Fields network. On July 19th, he was involved in an accident when the driver of his motorcycle hit a post and PoSan was thrown off upon impact. This resulted in 5 broken ribs and a small lung puncture (pneumothorax). He was evaluated at Royal International Hospital in Siem Reap and released for home care to Kralanh, a small village an hour away. His sister Yvonne went there from her home in Phnom Penh to help out. There is limited medical care in this location, PoSan is bed-ridden in a lot of pain. He had a fever flare, difficulty breathing and lowered oxygen levels. As verified by local and US-based specialists, the lung injury means he cannot be transported by air for "several weeks" and the 8+ hour road trip to better hospitals in Phnom Penh would be unsafe. He will need more ct scans in upcoming days "to see if pneumothorax has healed or expanded as well as view broken ribs at better angles," full prognosis TBD.
WHAT THE FUNDS WOULD BE USED TOWARD
1) hire a local full-time nurse/aide for care in the next critical weeks
2) hire/find a country-based pulmonologist for evaluation
3) pay for incurred and future out-of-pocket hospital expenses like ct scans, possible chest tubes, hospital stays, etc. (unfortunately specialist costs are comparable to western costs, ex. ct scan is over $1000)
4) purchase/loan medical equipment if necessary (to be donated later to a local clinic)
5) hire a 'private ambulance' transport to Phnom Penh (or Thailand) in a few weeks, and eventual trip back to the US with an aide.
RESPONSIBILITY OF FUNDS
Jannet Ung will manage the funds. Any unused amount will go toward Living Fields which is building a youth retreat camp in Somlot province. Jannet said this is near and dear to PoSan. More info on their website: https://livingfields.weebly.com/about.html To give directly, you can write a check to LIVING FIELDS 80 Johnson Street #2, Lynn, MA 01902. Or send your gift via wire transfer: LIVING FIELDS Citizens Bank, Routing 211070175, account #1308945865.

Just last week I was in Phnom Penh visiting folks with Mission to the World, co-led by another alum, Paul Lee (Brown '94). I marveled that I had a chance to observe God's love to Cambodians for over 28 years because I had met PoSan so long before. Here I was in-country seeing seeds of his influence. I recalled college friends volunteering w/the Lighthouse, visiting PoSan, Jannet & Nicole in Lynn, eating Cambodian noodles, arguing if jasmine rice was better than sticky rice and other friendly debates. PoSan's passion, good humor and earnest dedication to the gospel were always evident. In ensuing years, I lived with Cambodian-American roommates and friends became missionaries or NGO workers in the country. I always tried to connect them to PoSan because he was the OG :) I had just gotten back to the states when I heard of the accident. I wasn't able to meet PoSan in-country, but I had thought of him throughout my trip and wanted to organize help.
PRAYERS AND ENCOURAGEMENTS
Please support our brother PoSan, pray for his healing and to receive the best medical care possible, encourage him with your words, and refresh your partnership with Living Fields. Encourage his family as they have been anxious from afar. If you know in-country pulmonologists, let us know.
Share/post broadly. Drop him a note!

Even though the accident was unfortunate, stressful and painful, we are thankful that he is going to be OK. Pray PoSan's witness and love grows stronger so that "...brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel"
