We are Mikah and Hanna, the founders of POPPY—a developing collective which produces community-centered artist and artisan focused events. We are lifelong multidisciplinary artists who have spent our adulthood thus far in the service industry to make ends meet. We have witnessed firsthand ourselves and our peers struggle to balance a creative practice with the mental, physical, and often spiritual demands of a day job.

POPPY was born out of a desire to create sustainable opportunities for ourselves and our peers to develop our creative practices, make meaningful connections, and strengthen the sense of community in our city.

We are raising funds to produce our first event this September: where is here, a dance performance with DJ live music at Hall Pass with the Philly Fringe Festival. The piece explores the experience of somewhere holding our reflections of home. Some nostalgia, something from before, something right now, a part of an ongoing moment — maybe you'll remember or want to know what is here for you and maybe it will make you think of home too.
