Hello Everyone!
My name is Alexis "Pokey" Lizarraga.
I have been accepted into an amazing ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) Program at Mount Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles, CA for the Fall 2020 start date. After applying to several Nursing schools in the past three years, being accepted to such a program is a huge deal! At this time I am facing the challenge of paying for Nursing school and I am seeking support from community.
This ABSN program is an intense and rigorous 12-month long program, consisting of three consecutive semesters. At the end of the final semester, I will be eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure examination and to qualify for the California Public Health Nursing Certificate.
The "Total Cost of Attendance" is over $80,000 but I am trying to fund for half of the program first, so $40,000. I have received a $5,000 scholarship rewarded by the school, but that is simply not enough. All donations will go towards the total cost of attendance including tuition, books and living expenses since I will not be working because I will be in class lectures 3 days a week and in clinicals the other 4 days of the week. I have sought funding from many, many, many sources (loans/scholarships) but have yet to be successful in trying to come up with so much money in such little time - especially with the start date less than two weeks away!
Nursing schools are very tough to get into and it is even more tough to be accepted into an Accelerated-BSN program! This is a huuuge deal and it has been a goal of mine for such a long time! I have had clinical experience in a hospital and it is so clear to me that I am on the right path! Becoming a Nurse is a goal I will not ever stop trying, I mean, FIGHTING for!!!
I thank you all for taking the time to read my story and I express the utmost gratitude!
Thank you,
Alexis "Pokey" Lizarraga
