3 days after getting a clean bill of health from his vet, and a year after Pippin’s brother Merry suffered three urinary blockages and received an emergency PU surgery, Pippin is now undergoing the same struggles.
I've spent the last 3 days running back and forth between the animal ER at night, and their primary veterinarian during daytime working hours, scrambling to keep Pip alive.
The stones that blocked him twice in the last three days are the same kind he needed surgery to remove (will be featured as last photo, please skip if you are squeamish, and sorry for the poor quality, it’s a photo of a computer screen being shown to me at the lab) last year.
He is currently being unblocked by ER technicians, and it seems that tomorrow or day after, he will be going in for his own PU surgery by his primary veterinarian, which will likely be an additional $3-5k, but I’ve not received that estimate yet.
He first went to the ER when I realized he was blocked, which was the first scary bill, then I took him to his primary veterinary clinic and they wanted to do everything they could to try to get him to pass the stones on his own, which included laser treatment to break up the stones. He came home with me, miserable, drooling with nausea, spasming, taking three steps then squatting to pee and producing nothing, taking another three steps, doing this over and over again. I didn’t see him produce any urine at all, and after hoping for several hours, I decided it was too dangerous to keep hoping and took him back to the ER.
I was told by the attending physician that I made that call with little time to spare; his kidney values and potassium levels were at pretty alarming levels.
I’m exhausted, and I’m so devastated this is happening to another one of my boys.
My savings are depleted, and I don’t imagine I’ll reach the ideal goal set forth, but I really need help — any help.
