Friends and family, due to technical difficulties this fundraising site has been updated and restarted to reflect all the changes that have occurred over the last couple of months.

Jayson “PINA” Kozar has been in a multi-month long episode of hospital stays week on and week off.

He is currently in residence at Medical City Healthcare in Dallas where he is currently being treated for symptoms and continues a long and laborious series of tests, imaging, biopsies and transfusions.

The physician he met with this past week is part of a larger team that will analyze all the collected data and test results over this period of time to determine whether he is a good candidate for a liver transplant. The next month will be long, hard and determining.

It has been quite a rollercoaster for him and his sweet family that have been caretaking the last 8 weeks. Every hospital stay and round of physicians/nurses takes a new turn as they orderly move through different cocktails of medicine and intervention to keep him stable. This has been incredibly hard and emotionally draining on all of them. Every message, note, text and video he receives is an uplifter.

Unfortunately so much of his care is dependent on what his insurance is willing to pay for or not. That has been the real red tape in all of his ongoing care. Everytime a new test is ordered it is fingers crossed whether they will cover it. This has also led to his hospital stays coming to an end. “There is nothing more we can do for you.”

As you may well imagine this is incredibly tough and tiresome to hear over and over to be discharged and sent on your way.

Facing mortality in a foreign place without his community around him is so very scary and isolating.

All funds raised from this go straight to Jayson for medical expenses. And certainly if you are not in a position to donate, please just keep him in your thoughts and reach out with messages of love and compassion.
