Shy but sweet 1 year old Piel found himself at the East Valley shelter in Van Nuys / Los Angeles, CA as a stray in early January of 2026. Within less than two weeks he ended up on the dreaded euthanasia list as the shelter system is over its capacity for care and he is scared and showing signs of Fear, Anxiety, Stress (FAS).

Volunteers and networkers started to work on putting a plan in place immediately and luckily we have found a local foster in LA that he can go to, where he can decompress and relax and learn to trust. He will also be able to finish recovering from his Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and be able to get neutered before going on transport.

Once Piel feels better, hopefully within a few week, he will go to a shepherd rescue in Wyoming. They already have a few interested parties lined up that they are vetting to find the perfect forever home for Piel.

Unfortunately the involved (local and out of state) rescues cannot cover his full transport costs which is why we are asking for your help. Payment for transport is due in advance and he will also need to see a vet to get medication for his URI as the shelter is not allowed to give any medications to take home. His neuter will hopefully mostly be covered by the city issued voucher.

Volunteers who have met Piel describe him as friendly and sweet. He is very timid around anyone wearing a blue shirt and can be flighty in the yard with other dogs but has started to improve. Unfortunately he is out of time.

Please help us save these this sweet, shy boy so he can decompress and learn to trust again and hopefully find a forever home that knows his breed and will make him feel safe and loved for the first time in his life. Any amount no matter how big or small truly helps.
