Our beloved cat Pickles, also known as Mhyssa, also known by many other names as cats often are, has been having some major health issues over the past nine months. Last spring, we had a crisis when she started having seizures. With the help of our wonderful vet, we were able to stabilize those seizures. However, in the summer, we found out that the medicine that she was on to keep the seizures under control was giving her diabetes. Then in the fall, she had a recurring urinary tract infection that seemed to be resistant to the antibiotics that we had her on.
Pickles is a grande dame of seventeen and a half years old. She was born in a barn in Shelocta, Pennsylvania in 2008 and raised for her first six weeks by a very kind vet tech. Since then, she and Courtney have been best friends for the past seventeen years. Ian came into Pickles’s and Courtney’s life in 2018, and Pickles thinks that Ian is okay. (Just kidding, she is actually quite fond of him, but don’t let Ian know.) Pickles has had many adventures, and likes to play soccer and fetch with little felt balls, drink water out of the bathtub faucet, and lie on her comfortable pillow in front of the woodstove in the wintertime. In her youth she liked to watch the chipmunks out the window.
The various vet visits this past year have included to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital on a weekend, urgent care visits, X-rays, blood tests and urine tests, the cost of her three daily medications and her insulin, and biweekly reapplication of her blood glucose monitoring device. We are very grateful for the palliative care that our vet has given to Pickles, and we would be very grateful for any amount that you are able to donate to support Pickles’ vet bills.
