Phyllis has spent her life showing up for others—with strength, courage, and love. She raised her daughter, Katie, as a single mother from first grade through high school graduation. In 2016, she met her prince charming, Mike, and the two were married on December 31, 2018, beginning a new chapter together.

Just one day after celebrating their first anniversary, tragedy struck. Mike suffered a massive “widow-maker” heart attack. Phyllis performed CPR until help arrived, and after being shocked eight times, Mike was airlifted to San Antonio. He spent three months in the hospital before finally coming home to begin a long recovery.

Despite the challenges, Mike joined Phyllis in helping build her pool maintenance company—working hard to maintain their home and stay afloat. But more hardship lay ahead.

Phyllis began experiencing severe back pain. After finally receiving an MRI, doctors rushed her into surgery the following week. The procedure turned out to be far more serious than expected. Instead of the 2–3 day hospital stay she was promised, Phyllis remained hospitalized for 8 days and is now home, facing a long road to recovery.

Phyllis has always been the family’s primary source of income. Mike works 2–3 days a week at H-E-B and has taken two unpaid weeks off to care for her. Although Phyllis has insurance, it still cost $3,000 just to check in for surgery—an amount that had to be borrowed.

They are now praying for support to help cover medical bills, living expenses, and essentials during these next 8 weeks of recovery.
