Support for Phong Uu’s Fight Against Lymphoma
Hi, I'm Tammy, and I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my brother, Phong Uu. On the right of this photo with his nieces and nephew… always showing up and loved by them.
Phong’s health journey began in mid-2023 when he started experiencing abdominal pain and swelling. By December, the pain became unbearable, and he went to Methodist Emergency Department. A CT scan revealed multiple large lesions in his spleen. After a week in the hospital, he was discharged and referred to an oncologist, Dr. Blair.
In January 2024, a PET scan was performed, followed by a biopsy in May. The diagnosis: Stage 3 Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). Phong began chemotherapy (R-EPOCH) on August 16, 2024, then transitioned to Pola-R-CHP on September 9, completing five cycles by December 5.
Unfortunately, a precautionary PET scan in January 2025 showed the cancer had returned. He was referred to UC Davis Cancer Center, but insurance delays stalled treatment for months. Meanwhile, his symptoms worsened—his left abdomen became increasingly painful and swollen. On August 28, he was admitted to UC Davis Emergency Department and started on a stronger chemotherapy regimen the next morning. After several treatments, he was discharged on September 22 and met with his oncologist the following day.
The next step is CAR T-cell therapy. In October, Phong will undergo a 4–6 hour procedure to collect his T-cells, which will be sent to a manufacturer—a process that can take up to 18 days. Before the infusion, he’ll receive a 3-day chemotherapy treatment. Due to potential side effects like fatigue, fever, and confusion, his doctor has advised 24-hour care and no driving for at least 8 weeks.
Phong hasn’t been able to work since August 28 and likely won’t return for another 2–3 months. He’s never one to ask for help or complain, but this situation is emotionally, mentally, and financially overwhelming.
We’re asking our community for support—whether through positive thoughts, prayers, or donations. Any contribution will go directly toward his medical expenses and daily living costs while he’s out of work.
Thank you for your kindness, and please share this fundraiser if you can.
With gratitude, Tammy
