Phoebe is at risk of losing her home and returning to homelessness after years of fighting to get here.

After the devastating loss of her husband, Phoebe spent nearly seven years experiencing homelessness, doing everything she could to survive while navigating a system that repeatedly failed her.

A Section 8 voucher was issued in her name, but she was never informed until after it had already expired. Later, she was placed into housing under a time-limited subsidy (TLS) without being fully told it would end after two years forcing her to move yet again and start over.

Despite all of this, Phoebe kept going.

When she was finally offered a unit at the Santa Monica Vermont Apartments, she felt hopeful. She had been working closely with ULA advocates and believed she was finally stepping into stable, truly affordable housing. But that wasn’t the reality.

Phoebe lives on SSDI, yet her rent was not set based on her income. It consumed nearly all of her monthly benefits, leaving her with just $300 to survive. Over time, she fell behind not because she failed, but because the system failed her yet again. Now she is facing eviction.

Phoebe currently owes $20,000 in back rent, and without urgent support, she could lose her home and be forced to return to the streets.

We are raising funds to help Phoebe pay off this debt and stay housed. If we can cover what she owes, she has a real chance to remain in her apartment and rebuild stability.

Phoebe is not just someone in need, she is someone who has given a tremendous amount. She is my best friend, and a fierce advocate for people experiencing homelessness. She has spoken at press conferences, helped educate the community about Measure ULA, and is an active member of Ground Game LA.

She has shown up for her community again and again. Now she needs her community to show up for her.
