Please help alleviate some of the storm my Nephew and his family have been tasked to navigate.
Phippin is my amazing Nephew. Phippin is 14 years old and unable to attend school. Phippin loves theatre and especially likes the villain. He starred as Tiny Tim in “A Christmas Carol” for two years despite his health challenges (https://www.fox13now.com/news/positively-utah/real-life-tiny-tim-inspires-doctors-community ). He loves police officers and always wanted to be arrested and taken to jail. Thanks to a close family friend he was indeed arrested and taken to jail! He also likes Olive Garden and anything charcuterie.
Phippin was born with two rare genetic disorders and was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma early September 2025. He is currently at Primary Children’s undergoing chemotherapy. Chemo is complicated for Phippin given his underlying neurological and auto-inflammatory diseases but his oncologist is staying connected with his AGS team at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) so he’s in the hands of the best.
This kid has endured so much in his life: two mini strokes and brain surgery to minimize further risk of stroke (moyamoya); a progressive neurological disease and Aicardi-Goutières Syndrome that led to losing ability to walk and losing function in his right hand; breaking his tibia; being so sick for most of this last year (due to cancer). His suffering seems to never end, but it’s pretty clear he is a fighter.
Phippin has moments where he feels discouraged about it all but anyone that knows him knows he’s often remarkably positive despite the challenges he faces. When he breaks the news to people he says “I have news. Try to stay positive!” and “Don’t worry I’m going to be ok. It’s curable!” He told a friend “I may start losing my hair. But I’ve always been an old soul so if I go bald I’ll just pretend I’m an old man.”❤️
