Support Phillip's Fight Against Ewing's Sarcoma

Donation protected
To the friends and family of the Mitchell clan,

Phillip and Heather received the most unbearable news last week about little Phillip. He needed and received emergency surgery on Tuesday, May 13th, to repair a spinal fracture, using rods and screws to secure the spine and to remove a malignant mass that was pressing on his spinal cord.

What was originally thought of as a muscle strain prior to arriving at the hospital turned out to be a gut-wrenching diagnosis of Ewing's Sarcoma. According to John Hopkins, Ewing's Sarcoma is the second-most common type of bone cancer affecting children and young adults, and it accounts for about 1 percent of childhood cancers. About 225 children and adolescents are diagnosed with it in the U.S. each year.

While Ewing's Sarcoma can occur at any time during childhood, it most commonly develops during puberty, when bones are growing rapidly. Ewing's Sarcoma most often occurs in children between the ages of 10 and 20. Phillip is currently 15.

While Phillip did very well through the surgery (Hallelujah!) and the majority of the mass was removed, he has an incredibly long journey ahead of him that will require his parents to be with him so together, they cure his cancer. Praise God that the PET scan showed no metastases to any other area. The words "cure his cancer" were voiced by the doctors last week often, so with the support of his family by his side, little Phillip will soon be on his way to recovery!

In fact, a very aggressive plan of action was discussed consisting of chemo and radiation that begins next week and for a period of 9 months. Phillip and Heather plan to be with him during this journey to provide love, support, and continued prayer.

As a result, Phillip and Heather have reduced their work hours to ensure Phillip is never alone in the hospital and to be with their boy every step of the way. They have asked for our prayers that young Phillip continues to gain more strength and stamina to recover from his major surgery, walk without assistance, and most importantly, defeat his cancer. It was exciting to watch a video Heather sent me of Phillip attempting to take several steps today!

In addition to your much-needed love and prayers, I hope you can also support the Mitchells through this GoFundMe page and share it FAR and WIDE. Please help in any way you can and know how much this will help offset the hardship of medical bills and reduced work income while they are with Phillip every step of the way to his recovery!
