Curtis on the how and what happened:
On Sunday, December 11, at 7 am, Philip was playing with his new best friends, Heidi and Pepa, as they usually were since the day they met; suddenly, there was a loud noise, and Philip was screeching in pain.
He was found on the kitchen floor with no movement in his back legs, and he was terrified; I had immediately tried supporting him and calming him down, with no idea what injuries had occurred at this point.
I immediately tried calling as many people as I could; my friend rushed over to where we supported him and kept him warm with a blanket so I could grab my neighbour, who is a vet tech
She quickly assessed him; he did not want to be touched at all. We wrapped him up the best we could to support his neck and spine and keep him warm and rushed him to the VCA Care center in Calgary.
They immediately took him in and ran x-rays to discover there had been damage to his spine, but they needed to send the results off to the radiologist and wait for the neurologist to come in the next day to further assess his injuries.
A CT scan was performed on Monday, December 12, in which they discovered Philip has a broken vertebral column and several damaged spinal cord with a very small chance of being a normal puppy again.
Surgery was performed, and he came out with great vitals, but there is the potential for more complications that could arise.
As of right now, Philip is holding strong; he has that big dog mentality! He is receiving lots of love and is doing his best to sit up and look cheerful!
Philip has a long road ahead of him, but everyone involved is looking to get him the best help he can possibly get to make an effort to help him live a normal life again.
A note from Jeanine and Derek:
Any donation would be greatly appreciated to help Philip in the next steps of recovery. Thankfully pet insurance will help with some of the costs, but home care, physio and treatments will continue for months if he's up for the challenge. We're gonna fight with him.
Please no anonymous donations, (or at least text us to let us know it was you!) if he's lost before he gets to come home, the money will be returned.
