Thank you for taking the time to read more about this fundraiser for my sweet boy, Phife. My name is Evan and I am creating this fundraiser to help with the treatment for my best buddy and dog, Phife. Phife is a cane corso mix I rescued as a puppy and has been a member of my family and the greatest joy to my life over the last many years. I know every pet owners feels this way, but he is truly the most amazing, loving, most wonderful friend someone could ever hope for. He brings joy to every person whose life he touches. No matter who you are, he greets you with a wagging tail, a big wet kiss and more love and personality than even most humans I know.
Unfortunately, he started developing a limp and pain in his right front leg last week. That discomfort grew incredibly quickly into him no longer being able to put weight down on his leg at all by the end of the week. Immediately upon noticing his discomfort, I got Phife an appointment to his vet so they could take x-rays on his leg and see what was going on. We assumed it would be just a sprain or break, that would be fairly easy to treat. I was devastated to find out that the discomfort and limping was a result of a bone tumor in his shoulder/leg, called osteosarcoma. This form of cancer moves fast and does not give Phife a long prognosis for fighting it. Additionally, this form of cancer has very few options for treatment besides some very expensive and extreme measures.
The first and immediate measure is for the leg and shoulder to be amputated to try and remove as much of the cancer as possible. As difficult as the recovery and adjustment will be for Phife, this will bring him instant relief from the shoulder pain. Without the amputation, the cancer will lead to weakening and eventually the breaking of the bones, not to mention extreme pain. Needless-to-say, this would be excruciating for him, if we don't take the necessary immediate actions. Lord willing, once the leg is amputated and we have gotten through that hurdle, he will then require several rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy to try and eradicate any remaining cancer cells and prevent any future cancer cells from metastasizing.
None of this will be easy, but he's the strongest dog I ever met and, I know, if we can take immediate action, he will pull through this and be able to live the long, healthy and happy life he deserves. I refuse to give up and will do everything in my power to give him that opportunity, but I know I can't do it alone. Any help that you can provide is appreciated beyond what my words can express.
If I could financially do it all myself, I would in a heartbeat but with the urgency of his needs, it is simply not within my power. This is the first time in my life that I've ever sought outside help from others and I hate to do it as I know we all have our own hardships we are battling through, but my love for him compels me to find, by any means necessary, the help Phife so desperately needs and deserves. Whether it's a dollar or a hundred dollars or a thousand dollars, every penny counts and I thank you for it from the bottom of my heart. Please help me in saving Phife's life and giving him the best chance he deserves. Your generosity moves me and, again, thank you so incredibly much for anything you can provide in Phife's battle.
