Support Petty Officer 1st Class Laura Kinberg

A little bit of context
On Monday January 28, 2019, Laura stepped out of the house carrying her two young children.  She was en route to meet her partner, Ian, at his school so she could hand both kiddos off to him in order to attend the first class of her final course of her Master's degree problem.

But there’s a problem
As she was walking down the steps to her apartment, she fell down the entire flight while holding her 2 year old and 6 month old sons. In a testimony to Laura's protective mama-bear instincts, both boys were unharmed in the fall.  Unfortunately, Laura was not.

After Ian, her partner, rushed her to the Veteran's Administration (VA) emergency room, Laura discovered she had 3 fractures, ligament and tissue damage, as well as a dislocation in her right ankle. She needed emergency surgery.  Unfortunately, there’s a problem.

You see, Laura is a veteran.  She served in the US Navy on the USS Roosevelt throughout her early and mid-twenties. (This is also where she met Ian!)

The VA sent her home with some painkillers and told her to wait for a phone call about surgery.  Two days later, on the morning of January 30,  Laura was given a surgical date of February 11, 2019.  This means her fracture sites may need to be rebroken, as they may have partially healed by then.  This also means an extended recovery, and potentially permanent damage- all due to the backlog at the VA causing delay in her care from the underfunded VA.

Here’s what we’re doing about it
We are appealing to Laura's friends, family, and neighbors.  Please help us raise enough money so Ian and Laura do not need to worry about paying rent or feeding their babies while she recovers from her fall.

Additionally, we are contacting all of our and Laura's reps in congress, in an appeal for help.

You can join us
We are asking to raise $4,000 to cover the cost of rent and utilities for the next four months.  You can help us by making a donation, spreading the word, and contacting your representatives in Congress, asking them to provide adequate medical care for our Veterans.

Thank you!
