Our dear friend Peter left us unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Anyone who knew Peter knows how much he loved his son Kristoffer, and how incredibly proud of him he was. Peter's own words from last year speak to this with such love and eloquence:
"Since he saw the light of day, Stoffer has been the center of my world, my rock, my light. He is the best of me, without all the flaws. Stoff and I have been together 80% of all the weekends in his life, and logged a LOT of time in the car. I adore him!!!!
Two weeks ago, Kristoffer moved himself to Denmark. Bought himself a plane ticket, and then let me know that he was going to join the Royal Guards, and then on to College in Denmark.
I had planned to have a nice Eagle Scout Court of Honor, but Stoffer opted to have his Eagle awarded at a Troop meeting with little fanfare, a great cake, and a nice dinner together.
And then just like that, he was off to Denmark.
Giant steps, showing no fear or trepidation. My son just walked right into his future, head up, eyes focused forward, and he didn't look back.
I could have been hurt, but I would like to think that I taught him not to be afraid of the unknown, and to embrace the moment.
He is amazing. I’m happy for him, sad for me, but I am OH SO PROUD!"
In addition to the heartbreak and shock of losing his father unexpectedly, Stoffer is now facing a barrage of unexpected out-of-pocket expenses related to his father’s death. That started already, with plane fare to get back to the US for a visitation with his Dad before cremation.
To help, we are collecting funds to cover travel expenses for Kristoffer to travel back and forth between Denmark and Illinois. Any monies in excess of these expenses will be put into a fund for Kristoffer to help with the many other expenses he will face.
Thank you for remembering our dear friend with your donation. We hope to arrange a Celebration of Life ceremony, perhaps closer to the holidays, and we are looking forward to hearing your epic Peter stories at that time.
