When your best days become your worst…

On October 30th, 2024, Petal and Wayne celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. It should have been one of the happiest times of their lives, but it was not. You see, earlier that year - on Petal's 45th birthday to be exact - they received the news from their GP that her mammogram showed a huge mass in her left breast with a very high probability that it was cancer. It was not the kind of “gift” she was expecting or hoping for that day. Three days later, the referring specialist via ultrasound reconfirmed the high probability that the mass was cancerous. He immediately sent off her biopsy sample, and the results later confirmed breast cancer, more specifically, Stage 3 - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma - Hormone Receptor Positive – Grade 3. This is a very aggressive form of breast cancer. The news was devastating; not only did it place an emotional toll on both of them but it would also place an additional burden on their financial situation which had been dire coming out of the Covid pandemic.

Petal's doctors have recommended that she have surgery no later than six (6) weeks after the completion of her chemotherapy and then targeted radiation six (6) weeks after the surgery to ensure the best possible outcome. Currently, the radiation treatment she will need requires her to travel to either Trinidad & Tobago or Colombia for treatment. We are estimating that between the surgery, targeted radiation treatments, and miscellaneous medical procedures (CT scan, PET scan, blood tests, etc.) it will require a minimum of US $45,000.00 to cover Petal’s remaining medical expenses.
