I learned of a stray cat with kittens under a deck at a vacant house in my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. Mama cat was feral and babies were at that “now or never age” for being socialized by humans.

I contacted dozens of animal rescue organization for help trapping, spaying, vaccinating, and releasing the mother and also trapping, fostering, socializing, and adopting out the babies. Gratefully, I found help for mama cat, but I was unable to find a rescue to help with the kittens. All area rescues and shelters are inundated with calls for help with cats and kittens and there are just not enough people doing their part to help with the overpopulation problem in our community! THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT WE ALL SHOULD HELP SOLVE and there are so many ways to help!

I had two choices: 1.) Leave babies out there to fend for themselves. 2.) Step up to do my part.

I (and another neighbor) trapped the kittens and we each took two into our homes to begin the socialization process. The kittens warmed up quickly and all are now friendly, healthy, and playful. We continued looking for a rescue group or shelter to take them in and finally a couple had the means to help!

The kittens have gone to Pet Pride of New York for the next step in their journey to become permanently loved house pets---a very different life than they would have had if we had given up and just looked away.

Please consider making a donation to Pet Pride to help with the kittens’ vet care so they may then be placed up for adoption. All four kittens will be tested for FIV and FeLV, fully vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and spayed/neutered.

Pet Pride is an amazing facility and worth visiting and supporting! There are many other local pet rescue organizations and TNR groups in our community who would also be grateful for your help! Please consider adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating today!
