Support Perci's Transition: Urgent Need
Donation protected
Hello All!
I am the father of the most amazing guy ever! Even in the midst of great political and familial turmoil, he has found the strength to live his truth and authentically tell the world that he is a Trans-man!! The inner fortitude to do this is massive and I could not be more proud of him!
And now, after a few years living this truth, we decided to take that next "first step" in his gender journey. We spoke with his doctor about beginning his medical transition. Perci has decided that he would like start puberty blockers now and transition into full HRT in a few years when he turns 18. I, as well as his mother and doctor all agree that this is a spectacular plan. He and all of his friends and family at Uplift Outreach Center in Spartanburg are so very ready to celebrate this amazing journey together!
We wanted to get started right away. We currently have not been able to cover Perci with medical insurance due to a variety of reasons, so we had planned to just make this journey out-of-pocket. Were we ever so surprised when we were told the costs!!
Puberty blockers are given in an injectable form which are given every 6 months. This treatment is $10,000 PER shot!!! or $20,000 per year!!!
As you can imagine, we do not have $10,000 to be able to make this happen for Perci so we decided we would come to you- his friends, his support, his community to see if we can make this dream become a reality.
BUT WAIT---- THAT'S NOT ALL!!!
As you may have heard, our lovely state of South Carolina has decided to pass legislation restricting minor's access to gender-affirming care. This bill has passed, BUT, we are still able to start this regimen- IF, AND ONLY IF, we are able to pay for the first injection no later than July 31st!!!!
That is a MERE 20 DAYS from the date of this post!!!!
We are not only asking for the community to step up in a big way, we are asking you to step now quickly! Please, if you can, help this amazing little guy live more authentically as himself!
As we know that this is a huge, monstrous ask and deadline, we did want to talk about what happens if this does not get funded in time. In talking with Perci, he has asked that if we are not able to pay for the treatment in the timeframe needed, that we would then use the monies towards several other issues within the household. There are two things that are weighing on Perci that we do not have the money for-- 1) We just recently found a hygroma lump on our youngest dog's leg. Although not life threatening, it is highly recommended that we get it lanced and removed by a veterinarian. and 2) we have been recently blessed with a vehicle. We are eternally grateful for this magnificent gift- however, as the car had been sitting for quite some time, it is starting to need some serious work on it. It has a faulty sparkplug and it is recommended a full tune-up with replacement of all plugs and wires. It also needs brakes (brake light is on as it is losing brake fluid, we have rotor noise, and pad squeal) and we need to replace all four tires- they have dry rot that is causing them to continuously lose air. As this vehicle is intended to eventually be (after dad is able to secure another vehicle) Perci's first car and he absolutely loves it, he would like to get it to a condition where it is actually safe to drive.
We, of course, have also decided that, if it does not fund, that we would be willing to refund any donations that someone did not wish their funding to go to an alternate project. If that is you, We understand!! We certainly do not wish anyone to feel that were cheated!! Just either let us know in your comment or shoot us a message!!
