Support Penny's Healing and New Beginnings

Hi! You might know Penny's story...

We found her wandering in the Fashion District downtown LA with a plastic bag and electrical wire around her neck, and a mass in her neck area that was infected, in terrible condition and needed medical care.

We reached out to every rescue and organization we could find, but sadly no one was able to offer help or take her in. We found out she had a chip, so she had to go to the shelter and spend ten difficult days there, waiting for her former owners to claim her, and still needing medical care. As we expected, no one came to claim her and we were informed she would be put down right after the ten days. Faced with the impossible choice of leaving her there and knowing she would be put down, we decided to claim her ourselves in the hope that we could find someone to adopt her after she got the care she needed.

She had surgery to remove the neglected mass on her neck and although it was cancer, they were lucky to be able to get good margins and she was declared cancer-free! However, she recently had to have a second surgery for a smaller mass on her ear that we were monitoring in the hopes that it would heal, but instead it grew bigger and bothered her greatly. Apart from her surgeries, she's also had to receive treatment for a UTI, a skin yeast infection and ear infection all due to neglect and living on the street.

She's been with us now for about two months, and the cost of her care has been a lot more than we were prepared to cover in such a short time. Obviously, this was a situation that came out of nowhere and we were not prepared for, but Penny is an extremely sweet senior dog who we feel deserves a chance at a loving life after being severely mistreated and discarded, and we felt taking her in was the only logical and compassionate option.

We would appreciate any help, no matter how small; it will make a big difference for us! We have been lucky to have a great community of friends who have shared her story in the hopes of finding an adopter, and have felt extreme gratitude towards you all. We know it's a lot to ask, but we're swallowing our pride and reaching out for help because we truly need it. We also have some upcoming travel that we've had planned since the beginning of the year and cannot cancel, and we will need to board her as we have not been able to find pet-sitters that could take her in. We expect that will be a cost of around 1k.

I'm hoping to at least cover some of her recent medical bills. I've put them here for you to see!

The day we found her on the street, and the day we picked her up from the shelter right before her surgery.

Making friends with Mika and learning to play.

After her recent surgery where she sadly had to have her
ear cut, but she's adjusting well!

"Find a penny, pick it up. All day long you'll have good luck"
We named her Penny because she's our lucky penny we found on the street. In spite of it all she has shown us so much love and hopefully she can give all her love and luck to whoever ends up giving her a permanent home.
