I'm Penny. I am the founder and operator of Mew-Mew House, a retirement and hospice home for cats that I run out of my personal residence shown on the cover of this fundraiser.

While Mew-Mew House is going strong, I myself have encountered financial problems leading me to the potential of losing my house. If I lose my house, not only do I suffer, the feline residents of Mew-Mew House will also be kicked out.

Right now, there are 34 feline residents at Mew-Mew House. The vast majority are elderly—15 years old or older. Three of the cats are diabetic and require twice-daily injections of insulin. One cat is hyperthyroid and requires a pill twice a day.

Two residents are in hospice. They are still active and interested in living but have toileting problems that make them unadoptable.

Right now, I need to raise around $10,000 to keep the house. I've kept up with mortgage payments and all the basic payments to keep the lights on and water flowing.

Unfortunately, after getting divorced and laid off at the end of 2019 and then COVID, my finances took a big hit. I've been struggling along for the last 5 years and have finally filed for bankruptcy.

For better or worse, during those 5 years of struggle, the value of my house has increased sufficiently that now I have equity above the homestead exemption. I have to pay the court this additional equity or I have to sell the house.

What should be a great thing is actually terrible. I can't refinance and decrease my equity because... I'm in bankruptcy.

This is where you come in.

I'm about $10,000 short in covering this equity gap.

(The gap is actually larger than this, but I have other sources of funding to cover the bulk of it. I'm just a little short.)

I've fought all this time to keep the house not just for me, but for the cats. Can you help me for this last step?
