- This is Peggy's story. Peggy is 87 years old and up until a few weeks ago was in better health than her children and myself, her daughter in law. She had went outside as always to sit on the porch for a bit. It began to rain so her daughter told her she had to come on back inside, she does have a touch of dementia so some things we just have to remind her. Coming inside she fell, breaking her hip in the process. She had to have surgery and when a dementia patient goes under anesthesia it can cause them to get more confused for a time. It did. She didn't understand that they just had her in the hospital but my sister in law and nephew, Bonnie and Jeremy who she lives with and they care for her went to her daily. When the time came for her to be released she needed physical therapy so that she could learn to walk again on that hip. We considered Bonnie and Jeremy going ahead and bringing her back home and having the therapy done daily at home. But there were too many obstacles with Bonnie's health, She would've never stood for Jeremy helping her go to the bathroom and Bonnie just isn't physically able as she's already lost some of her toes due to diabetes complications, Bonnie now can't walk much because she needs knee surgery but has to have another toe removed in a few days. I'm no help because I'm in a wheelchair already, normally that would not matter because I could function well from my wheelchair but for the past three years I've battled cellulitis in my legs that constantly turns into sepsis that's recurring because of circulation issues the sepsis caused me to have a heart attack, massive and I'm in the hospital 2-3 times a month. So due to all those circumstances it was just best to send her to a rehab center which we all know is in a nursing home but it was only for a few weeks. Bonnie and Jeremy went everyday except once and then when they got there Mom was so swollen on the side of her face from underneath her ear they were shocked to see it. They questioned the staff but instead of sending mom to the hospital they simply did blood work and said they found infection and gave her antibiotics. So eventually time was up they taught Jeremy how to walk her she do some of the therapy. The day comes that they bring Mama home. She gets home and Jeremy notices she isn't right. She's not acting right. He said she seemed weak and just stared off didn't really talk, didn't ask for the things she normally does. Wouldn't eat, Mama loves to eat. So he called an ambulance, took her back to the hospital. They found that she had a huge bed sore, how does someone who is supposed to be getting physical therapy get a bed sore? This means they weren't getting her out of bed for physical therapy. They also did find that she has a mass on her gallbladder and they're all but certain it's cancer. They sent her to a hospital better able to help her. They talked to Jeremy and Bonnie and said that they needed an MRI to see more but discussed with them that it was pointless because regardless of what they find she isn't strong enough for any treatment, surgery, chemo or radiation. So they said this was it. This healthy woman until a few weeks ago is suddenly sent home on hospice care to die. We thought Mom had insurance but we found out it lapsed before her second husband passed. We have less than a few days to pull money that none of us have from somewhere. With my health and being in and out of the hospital our funds are depleted I'm on a fixed income, Bonnie and Mama both are on a fixed income and they make it putting their fixed income together. There's nothing left. So we are desperately seeking help to give Mama the proper burial she deserves. If you can please help. Any amount helps and there are no small amounts. If you aren't able to donate please share.
